At AZENA, we chose this trade because it sits at the intersection of two things we care about: craft that takes years to learn, and technology that changes what "craft" can scale to. We buy directly from cutters we trust, inspect every stone ourselves at our Vienna hub, and speak to our clients personally — in seven languages — whether the order is one carat or one hundred.
The name "Azena" isn't inherited meaning. It's defined meaning — a word we chose for the balance it implies. Balance between strength and beauty. Between old craft and new technology. Between a stone as object and a stone as story.
AZENA was founded in 2020 in Budapest by Slava Kravtchenko, together with a team of gemstone enthusiasts and technologists.
Slava's background is engineering and IT. A fascination with stones that began as a private interest grew into a hobby, and then into a calling he couldn't leave alone. He started travelling — to the cutting houses of Surat, to the coloured-stone markets of Jaipur and Bangkok, to artisanal miners in Africa and South Asia — and realised something obvious to anyone in the trade but invisible from the outside: the distance between where a stone is cut and where it's sold is full of markup, opacity, and guesswork.
AZENA was built to collapse that distance. We source directly. We cut with long-term partners who share our obsession with colour and light. We run every system that connects the supply chain to the customer in-house, built by the same technologists who founded the company. And we ship from EU stock, with a gemologist's hand having touched every stone at our Vienna hub before it leaves for the customer.
The name "Azena" draws on roots across Persian, Arabic, and Hebrew traditions — all of them pointing at the same thing: controlled beauty. Four values we don't just put on a wall. We run the business by them.

We come from IT. Every system is written in-house: our catalogue, our filtering platform, our inventory engine, our automated supply-chain link between Surat, Jaipur, Peshawar, Bangkok, Budapest and Vienna. When a stone leaves the cutting bench, it's in our system before it leaves the country.
That means local EU stock, not drop-ship. 1,000+ carats of diamonds held in our Vienna distribution hub, photographed and 360°-imaged, ready to ship overnight across the EU — no customs surprises, no three-week wait for a stone from abroad, no question about whether it exists.
It also means honest filters. Every spec you can search for is verified against the actual stone. Nothing is aspirational. Nothing is out of date.
A certificate is a claim. Two sets of expert eyes and a physical inspection in Budapest make it a guarantee.
Every stone is graded by the lab best suited to the material — IGI, GIA, or GCAL for diamonds; GIA coloured-stone reports, GRS, Gübelin, or AGL for coloured gems. No in-house-only grading.
On top of the external report, our in-house gemologists inspect every stone ourselves. We confirm the certificate's findings, document anything the report didn't capture, and match the stone to its permanent AZENA file.
Before a stone ships, it's inspected one final time at our Vienna hub — photographed, packaged, and sent insured. Every customer, retail or trade, receives the same care. A private showroom is opening here soon.
